Dr. Lisbet Hanson is a senior partner of Virginia Beach OB GYN, an Assisstant Professor of OBGYN at Eastern Virginia Medical School and co-founder of Colleagues In Care.
A graduate of the University of Vermont College of Medicine, Dr. Hanson completed her specialty training in OB GYN at Eastern Virginia Medical School. She has been serving the Virginia Beach community for 30 years and is passionate about all aspects of women’s care, particularly safe deliveries, minimally invasive surgery, adolescent gynecology and breast cancer awareness.
Internationally, Dr. Hanson initiated OB GYN ultrasound training for Obstetricians and Nurse Midwives in the Central Plateau of Haiti. Working in collaboration with Zanmi Lasante/ Partners in Health and GE, the training has since been incorporated into the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology Outreach Course (ISUOG). She has personally taught this program in multiple sites in Haiti, Ghana and Somaliland training more than 150 medical staff in the use of utrasound in OBGYN diagnosis. She was honored in 2015 by ISUOG as one of twelve international physicians designated as Ambassadors for Outreach Ultrasound education.
In partnership with her husband John Kenerson MD, Dr. Hanson is also leading the planning and development of a mother and baby unit expansion at the Batis Clinic, located in Baptiste, Haiti, near the Haiti-Dominican border. She has been an instructor for Blood Pressure Training at Haiti’s Medical and Nursing school and has participated in community Hypertension Screening Programs throughout Haiti.
She is the 2014 recipient of the YWCA of Hampton Roads Women of Distinction in Medical Leadership award, the 2013 recipient of the John Krueger Lectureship Physician of the Year Award, the 2012 co-recipient of the University of Vermont College of Medicine Salute to Service and Community Alumni Reward, and is the 2010 co-recipient of the Medical Society of Virginia Salute to International Service Award. She was named a “Super Doc” in 2011 and “Top Doc” in 2009 by Hampton Roads Physicians Magazine.
Dr. Hanson is also the founding Board Member of TR Dance and supporter of the Governor’s School of the Arts and Dance. In 2008 the Hanson Award was created in her name for Generous Support and Dedication to the Arts in Hampton Roads.
